Command structure

Commands are grouped by what they work on, for example olostep keys list or olostep monitors pause <monitor_id>. The main web-data commands have a shorthand that runs their create command: olostep whoami is the same as olostep account info.

Get help

olostep help <words> lists the commands whose name or description contains every word. Help works without signing in.

Output

The CLI picks its output for where it is going: Errors go to stderr, so piping stdout never mixes them into your data. Colors are also off when FORCE_COLOR=0 or TERM=dumb is set:

JSON

Add --json to any command that lists it in its help:
Commands that call Olostep return one JSON object:
Parse the JSON, not the human-readable output. The human output can change between versions.

Select fields

--fields keeps only the fields you name. Separate fields with commas, and reach nested fields with a dot. Each field you pick is printed under the path you gave:
To pick nested fields, look at the full --json output once, then name them as data.<field>. --fields also works without --json, and shows only those fields in the table.

Pipe into jq

Passing values

Positional URLs and queries can also be passed as flags, for example olostep scrape create --url-to-scrape https://example.com or olostep search create --query "olostep".

Commands that change things

Commands that create, change or delete something, or use credits, say so in their help. They support:
Commands that use credits, such as scrape, search, map, crawl, answer, extract, batch create, monitors create, monitors run and agents run, say This consumes credits or consumes credits in their help.

Global flags

These flags work on every command: These flags work on every command that shows them in its help:
